What happens next
No road vote is scheduled. Residents can raise road conditions at the Township Committee meetings on November 24 and December 15. The state usually announces its yearly municipal aid grants in November, which will show whether the township's Bloomingdale Drive application was funded.
Hillsborough handles its roads in three ways: a yearly repaving contract, cheaper surface treatments
such as chip seal run by Public Works, and state grants for single roads.
2026 repaving. On July 28, 2026 the Committee unanimously awarded the 2026 paving contract to Top
Line Construction for $695,616.65, the lowest of five bids (R-234-2026). Work began the week of
September 7 on Strawberry Lane, Chamberlain Drive, Van Fleet Court, Harman Court and Herder Drive.
The same night the Committee awarded Phase 2 of the Flemming Drive sidewalk replacement to Cedar
Contracting for $253,070, the lowest of seven bids (R-232-2026). The only bid in a first round had
been rejected in November 2025 as too high.
Montgomery Road. In 2025 residents asked the township to pave the road’s unpaved stretch. The
mayor at the time put full paving at about $1.5 million and chip seal at about $100,000. A Committee
report in October 2025 thanked Public Works for chip-sealing Montgomery Road. On July 28, 2026 a Montgomery Road resident spoke against
chip sealing, citing safety and flooding, and the Sourland Conservancy’s executive director also
spoke against the project. On September 8 the Committee unanimously approved an asphaltic oil and
chip surface treatment of Montgomery Road by Asphalt Paving Systems, up to $186,392.70 (R-292-2026).
The record does not say which section, or whether the work is done.
Farm Road. The state awarded $505,903 in December 2025 for Farm Road between Route 206 and
Triangle Road, including ADA curb ramps and better crosswalks. Pennoni is designing it, for up to
$40,300 (R-37-2026). No construction date is on record.
Residents can report problems to the Engineering Department, check the township’s road-condition
map, and raise roads at any Township Committee meeting.
