How Somerset County is run
Somerset County is governed by a Board of County Commissioners — the Board of Chosen Freeholders until 2021, when New Jersey renamed the office statewide. The board adopts the county budget and is responsible for county roads, bridges and other county-level services. The county seat is Somerville.
